Hartwell Methodist Church, Hartwell, GA

Hartwell Methodist Church in Hartwell, GA is now home to a 4-manual Allen GX450 model Allen organ, installed in June of 2024. After the church decided to renovate/remodel the sanctuary, it was also decided to upgrade the organ as well. The sanctuary previously played host to a smaller Allen MDS two manual organ that served the church for almost 30 years.

This installation posed some unique challenges to the AOS crew due to lack of chamber space for all of the divisional speakers. Nonetheless, these challenges were resolved by mounting the Swell and Choir/Solo division speakers on opposite walls of the chancel/choir loft. The Great division speakers were installed in the high ceiling chamber previously used by the previous Allen Organ. Two additional speakers were installed within the rear ceiling rafters for the Choir/Solo Antiphonal division; which can be turned on via stoptabs on the console. Due to lack of space, a cover was designed and built by staff member J. Hill to contain the separate bass cabinet near the console, and was stained to match the wood color within the chancel area.

While pipe organs require sizable amounts of space (and chambers) for the hundreds of pipes needed, digital Allen organs are no constrained by those requirements, as this installation has demonstrated. We hope this fine instrument will serve the Hartwell congregation well for decades to come. Please enjoy the pics below of this installation.
